Where Stories Take Root and Legacies Flourish

At Seed Publications, we believe in the power of storytelling to bridge cultures, honour histories, and celebrate diverse perspectives. Our mission is to publish works that not only inform but inspire—fostering connections between readers and the powerful narratives of artists, visionaries, and changemakers around the world.

My Story: A Life Dedicated to Documenting Legacies

I founded Seed Publications with a deep commitment to amplifying underrepresented voices and preserving stories that might otherwise fade. As a Jamaican-born photographer, my work has always sought to capture the resilience, beauty, and complexity of the African diaspora. My journey began in St Elizabeth, Jamaica, where I was raised by my grandparents, before moving to London at the age of ten to join my parents. Living between two worlds—Jamaica and London—had a profound impact on my perspective and artistic vision, shaping my lifelong commitment to documenting the richness of Black identity and culture. Growing up as the only Black child in my school in the London Docklands, I faced unique challenges that would later influence both my work and the way I see the world. I spent years developing my voice in the photography industry, initially working as a freelance photographer for fashion magazines. However, my true focus shifted when I decided to dedicate my work to a project that would become my life’s mission: documenting the lives and legacies of the Black diaspora.

Pioneering Change in Photography and Cultural Preservation

In 1983, I became the first Black photographer to hold a solo exhibition at London’s Photographers’ Gallery with my landmark series, The Black Triangle. This exhibition, along with my later works such as Children of the Black Triangle, positioned me as a leading voice in Black photography, amplifying stories of identity and community that spoke to generations. As a co-founder of the Association of Black Photographers (now Autograph ABP), I also helped create a platform for Black artists and photographers worldwide to find community, support, and representation. From documenting African culture as the official photographer for Africa ‘05 to having my work showcased in institutions like the Victoria and Albert Museum, my legacy is one of dedication to representation and cultural preservation. My portraits, rich with depth and authenticity, capture not just images but the very essence of resilience, identity, and pride. At Seed Publications, I carry forward this legacy by nurturing and sharing stories that resonate, educate, and inspire. Each publication we produce is crafted with care and respect, designed to honour the voices that shape our world and plant seeds for future generations. We are committed to creating a space where new and established voices can thrive, fostering a community united by a shared passion for storytelling.
